About Me

Hello! My name is Anna Shih. I'm a Seattle-based lighting designer largely focused on theatre and musicals, though I'd love to expand to other forms of live performance. I recently graduated the University of Washington with a double degree in Drama: Design and Computer Science at the University of Washington. As a double major, I'm interested in problem-solving from as many angles as possible, and ability to tell stories from the smallest of details. I am always excited to learn new tools and skills, and a firm believer in the power of collaboration.

As an early-career artist, I am curious about a wide variety of genres and aesthetics, and hope to work as broadly as possible, with all the people I can. That being said, I do have a soft spot for anything involving fantasy, magic, or other worlds to explore. I approach theatre-making as a continual process of discovery; the discovery of a story, the discovery of the world around us, and the discovery of ourselves as agents and interpreters on this strange little planet. Ultimately, I hope that these stories move us, and that these discoveries push us into feelings new or familiar, heightening our emotional engagement with who and what we care about.

Outside my theatrical interests, I am often found knitting or reading in a comfortable corner with a tea or tea-adjacent beverage. I greatly enjoy creating stories with my friends, either during DnD or stage combat fights in the park.

My recent credits include lighting design for Vanity Fair and Airness (University of Washington), Sometimes the Rain, Sometimes the Sea and An Incomplete List… (Dacha Theatre), In Between and Monologues of n Women (YUN Theatre), and Briar/Rose (Magpie Theatre Ensemble)

Please do not hesitate to reach out if you feel we may be good collaborators - let’s venture into artistry together!
